Movie posters analysis

Lord of the Rings
  • It's got a dark background to make it look ominous
  • It has no title which bring interest about what the movie is about.
  • The font uses serif to make it look like it comes from old times but it look fantasy like as well.
The Matrix
  • The code looks like rain to make it look dark.
  • The font for the title uses serif but the text looks fractured as if it's a bug in an computer. This gives it a futuristic effect.
  • The date is turned into a tagline. This gives the feeling of being immersive.

The Hunger Games
  • It gives off warm colours but it sort of mesmerizes you.
  • The title uses a mixture of san serif and 3d font to give off a modern feeling to it.
  • Some of the girl in the poster is replaced with fire. This shows the main character could be a strong and feisty female character figure. This may be to attract a female audience as well as a male one.

When an image is a Portrait when it is a fashion photograph

It is Portraiture when your try to bring out the true self or what you think it is of the subject you take a picture of. The photographer has to try to capture the mood as well as the likeness of the subject. They can do this by using the subject posture as well as the expression of their face. Like someone who is laying around can be shown as them being in a rebellious mood.
It is a Fashion photograph when the photographer focuses more on the fashion more rather than the art. It’s like the model is more like a canvas rather than a piece of art. You expect fashion photographs in a magazine more than other places

The degree that an image should be manipulated to go into a fashion magazine.

In fashion photography the following manipulations that occur are when the photographer adjusts the positioning of the model. The way the model face is pointing determines the width of the face. By say encouraging words to the model while taking pictures increases the models confidence, allowing them to look better in shot.
How about manipulations to the photos before they are taken e.g., models, Makeup, sets, clothes. By choosing places that are really unusual like the really cold. This causes the model to focus more on the job rather the atmosphere they are in. This can also work by giving the model more clothes to wear.

The clashes between the creative and commercial side of fashion Photography.

The clash between creative and commercial is represent through Anna as the commercial side and Grace as the creative side. Grace wants to come up with original and new ideas but Anna wants to just try to sell the magazines without taking too much of a risk.

The commercial clash wins in the clash because people kept on taking down different pages that Grace put up and no one will stand up to Anna who made these decisions. This comes from fear with her. When some of them talk to her they end up becoming nervous and shaky.

Do you agree? Why?
I can’t agree with either side of the clash because I see them both having good points. With the creative side they want to bring out there own personal ideas and style into the magazine. They want to express to as many people as they can. While the commercial side needs to make money to keep there company up and they need to satisfy there customers with what they want.

Layer masking

Here I have placed a woman over a forest background using the layer mask.
